I don’t drink a lot of wine – maybe a glass or two a week, but I do have a good selection of wine stashed away in the house. Just in case I’m called on to suddenly host a wine and cheese event, or something similar. I don’t have cheese stashed away, of course – that would be silly.
Now there’s a new bottle shop opened up not far from my house. It’s new and it’s fancy, and I’m very tempted to go in and have a look.
I’d have to disguise my visit as a “looking for a Christmas present” jaunt, just in case I run into one of my dog walking group while I’m there, and they assume I’m a secret wine-aholic.
The reality for me, though, is that when I find a particular type of wine I like, I tend to stick to that one, to the exception of all the other bottles stashed away neatly inside the wardrobe in the spare room.
And when I find the wine I like, I order it by the case load, just in case they run out of it for some reason (maybe because there are women out there who order it by the caseload). I order it online, so the only person who knows that I get 12 bottles of wine delivered at one time is the delivery driver…. who I can tell that the wine is for my husband who is a bit of a lush.
So if I was to go into the brand new and shiny bottle shop, I would no doubt find myself wandering the aisles, looking at all the many many different sorts of wine on offer, but leave unencumbered by wine.
I’d like to think of myself as an equal opportunity wine drinker, but let’s face it – white wine isn’t for me, and when it comes to red wine it’s a case of the sturdier the better.
I’m a Cab Sav sort of girl. Or a Tempranillo. But I’m fussy.
I’m not a wine connoisseur. I will drink red wine with fish or chicken, because I don’t care what sort of wine someone else thinks I should drink – I drink wine I like.
Are you the sort of person who doesn’t mind a glass of wine every now and then? If so, do you enjoy any sort of wine or, like me, do you have preferences when it comes to fermented crushed grapes?
