Significance of dates (HLD 99)

29 June 2020

Theres been a ‘thing’ going around social media recently, about “Florida Man”.

It suggests people Google “Florida man”, and the date of their birth. It will pull up news reports that have happened that relate to a man from Florida on one of your birthdays.

Apparently men from Florida get up to stuff on a very frequent basis. And, to be quite frank, they’re a bit strange.

For instance, when I google Florida man and my birthday, one of the headlines shows up as “Florida man punches shark to save dog”. Which is perfectly reasonable. I’d do the same thing myself. No judgement on this Florida man. But another one says that “Florida man guns down puppy from apartment balcony”. Not so nice.

Florida man also:

Wanted the US military to fight Hurricane Dorian with ice, on my husbands’ birthday;

Killed family friend for ‘trying to pick up’ his imaginary girlfriend, on my mum’s birthday;

Was arrested for throwing sausages at his Mom, on my mother-in-laws birthday;

Loses pants during burglary, on my grandson’s birthday. (But to be fair, he also broke into a woman’s home to pet the family cat on the same day. Hopefully a different man.)

Its quite entertaining – have a bit of an internet search to see what Florida Man got up to on your birthday, wedding anniversary, etc.

I don’t know why it’s always a Florida man – I have tried googling different locations, but people from other US states are either much more law abiding, or more boring, than men from Florida.

But it prompts todays question for your brain, or your internet researching capabilities.

What significant thing/s happened in your year of birth? Or on the date of your birthday (day, month?)????

1963 was the year the world was gifted with my arrival. It was also the year when John F Kennedy was assassinated, but it’s highly unlikely the events were linked. It’s also the year that Martin Luther King delivered his “I have a dream” speech, the Great Train Robbery happened in Britain, Pope John XXIII died, the first successful liver transplant, and a Soviet woman became the first woman in space.

In September, King Richard II of England abdicated (in 1399), Robinson Crusoe is shipwrecked (according to Daniel Defoe), Samuel Slocum patented the stapler, the Hoover Dam was dedicated by Roosevelt, James Dean is killed in a car crash aged 24, “The Flintstones” premieres on television in the US, and Mozart’s opera “Magic Flute” premieres in Vienna.

What significant event/s happened on your significant dates? And more importantly, what did Florida man get up to?
